A visit to this canyon is the equivalent of a triple trip into the past and the fifteen thousand years in which the turbulent stream excavated the mountain that separates Trento from Valsugana, opening its way into the Adige valley.
Our destination is the ‘Collina di Trento’, Trento’s Hill, namely the hill that from the South-Eastern area of the city gently rises towards Mount Marzola and the hamlets of Povo and Villazzano.
Today we will lead you on a discovery tour of a different, unusual and adventurous Trento. We will ‘take to the hills’ to view the city from high up. We will travel back in time to the Council of Trento.
We will tell you how the nobles of that century spent their summer holidays. And we will explain how some of the older religious traditions were born, with stories of flying houses and of plague-curing saints.
“The towers of Trento, history’s guards” leads us to discover five famous towers of the city of Trento: Torre Verde, Torre Vanga, Torre della Tromba, Torre Civica and Torre Mirana. This millennia old architectural solution became a veritable trend in medieval Europe.
“From the centre of a square: Dante (Alighieri), Cesare (Battisti) and the ‘militant’ monuments” tells the genesis and the meaning of two of the most famous monuments in Trento. A statue and a mausoleum celebrating two figures of Italian culture and history and, as in a dialogue, they symbolically summarise the spirit of the age in which they were built.
“Trento, a painted city – Street art from the Italian Renaissance”, a tour ready to be listened to discover a unique and priceless historical and artistic heritage. A true immersion in past centuries, retracing the history and iconography of the most significant facades decorating houses and palaces of Trento.
